Armed youth from Twic County have successfully recovered cattle raided by armed youth from Mayom County, Unity State, in an incident that occurred in Toc Yar, Majook Noon Aweng Payam. The recovery follows a series of coordinated efforts between local youth and the SSPDF to curb cross‑border livestock theft.
According to local sources, armed youth from Mayom crossed into Majook Noon Aweng Payam and drove off herds of cattle before being pursued by Twic youth, who managed to intercept the raiders and recover the stolen livestock. This incident adds to a similar recovery in February 2026, when 249 cattle were retrieved through joint operations.
The Toc Yar raid is one of several cattle‑related attacks reported in Twic County this year, particularly involving cross‑state incursions from Unity State. Local authorities say the repeated raids continue to heighten tensions and disrupt the livelihoods of herders in the region.
Beyond Twic County, cattle raiding remains a widespread challenge across Warrap State. Communities in Tonj North, Tonj South, Gogrial East, and Gogrial West have reported multiple incidents in recent months, often involving armed youth groups moving across county and state borders. These raids have displaced herders, increased insecurity, and strained local security resources.
Cattle raiding continues to be fueled by competition over grazing land, access to water points, and the presence of armed youth groups operating with limited oversight. Authorities are urging cattle keepers to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and cooperate with security forces.
Security officials say joint patrols between the SSPDF and local youth will continue in hotspot areas as part of ongoing efforts to recover stolen livestock and reduce inter‑communal violence.
